About Fox & HoundsSituated in the conservation area of Barnston on the Wirral Peninsula, The Fox and Hounds has all the charm and characteristics of a traditional village inn. Its cosy and welcoming atmosphere has maintained its popularity since its doors opened over ten decades ago. The pub’s bars are ideal for relaxing and enjoying a quiet drink or a leisurely meal.The present pub was built about 1911 on the site of an Ale House & Barn. A lot of the original character was retained when the downstairs living accommodation was converted into drinking space in 1984. The Lounge Bar is ideal for a quiet drink and makes an ideal dining area at lunchtimes or evenings. The Old Bar or “Snug” with its open fire in the winter months is the original bar & displays various collections of bric-a-brac. The Snug has also kept its original characteristics with its original wood block floor, oak fire surround and fixtures and fittings giving a warm and welcoming feel to the room. The general decor of this pub is true to its origins, featuring an assortment of memorabilia collected over its years. Take a look around next time you are in and enjoy the traditional features that you don’t see very often anymore. Huge range of well kept real ales and cask beers. Excellent 'home cooked' pub food with quick and friendly service. The food was very tasty with a wide choice and served within 5 minutes of ordering by the excellent and attentive staff. The Fox & Hounds is only small but has an intimate atmosphere and is nicely decorated with local pictures, plenty of brass and other interesting memorabilia. It seems that, in winter, they have a nice fire lit in both bar and lounge. Did I mention that the beer was great?

The Fox and Hounds is a longstanding public house that has adapted to modern times without losing the appeal of the traditional British pub. Lots of polished brass and quirky bits & pieces to amuse visitors.
There was quite an extensive range of beers. Everybody was very welcoming and the food service was efficient and friendly. I went for the pheasant in shallot sauce from the specials board. No complaints! This was excellent pub fare at a very resonable price!
