About George & Dragon

The George & Dragon at Newton by Castle acre is a pub as it should be. A cozy log fire glowing in the hearth, comfortable seating around the bar, real ale carefully stored and tended, top quality food at reasonable prices with an excellent hand-chosen wine list to accompany it.

The days of tradition English Inns has not totally disappeared thank goodnes. At "The George", you'll find no plastic, no formica, nor ready meals in a box - just old brickwork, wooden tables and food cooked to order, and exactly as you like it.

If you love listening to live music, come along to the George & Dragon for a great night out. Our musical events are always very popular, so please book a table in advance. Join us for "Jazz Nights" on the last Friday of the month, when we serve a special menu for our guests. No booking required. Just come along and enjoy the music! Local acoustic session players are invited to join us on the first Thursday of every month to play traditional Irish Ceilidh folk music in the bar. Guest singers also perform at these sessions, and sing a fine selection of folk songs and tunes.

"The Bay Room" at the George & Dragon is available for private functions, and can easily accommodate groups of up to 40 people or more. It is bright and airy in summer, and warm and cosy in winter, with its own inglenook fireplace and a real log burner. "The Bay Room" has plenty of wooden tables and chairs, a charming rustic feel, and wonderful

The George & Dragon is an excellent eating establishment run by a husband (the chef) and wife (a welcoming, breath-of-fresh-air, front of house staff) partnership. The pub is cosy and quaint and the food outstanding for such a rural and somewhat isolated location. However it??â„¢s only 10 minutes drive north of Swaffham and just a mile east of Castle Acre. It's not "posh" but serves food that will make you want to return. I, for one, will certainly be back!

Pub is easy to find and is situated on the main A1065 just north of Swaffham. I have been there several times and have never been disappointed. Always a good selection of local real ales, which is a bonus. The best pub if in the area for food. Food is always very well cooked and even with a large party the courses arrived promptly for everyone (nothing worse than having to sit and watch others eating while you are still waiting). Thoroughly recommended

The food was exceptional, varied and had some seasoning I've never tasted before. My son ate his way through the menu twice, he thought the food that good! The pub was beautifully and imaginatively decorated and very clean. Though the staff was very young, it was well trained and very friendly. I would recommend this pub to anyone who wants to make a day-out really special.
