About The Lifeboat Inn

The Lifeboat Inn, situated minutes from the stunning sandy beaches of the Norfolk Coast has been receiving guests since the 16th century.

The Inn's original character has been carefully preserved throughout. This wonderful country pub, situated in the picturesque village of Thornham on the North Norfolk Coast, has a popular restaurant; a welcoming lounge with an open fireplace; a bright conservatory; a traditional, history-soaked bar; and a pirate ship play area for children. An ideal bed and breakfast destination for a weekend or long break away.

The Lifeboat is the ideal retreat for a short break, a child friendly or family beach holiday. Perfect for a golf break, dog walking holiday on the Peddars Way, some wonderful bird watching or simply a romantic getaway!

After a period of sympathetic refurbishment and tasteful redecoration, all of our 13 bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, tea & coffee making facilities, television, hair dryer, telephone and warm pine furniture. Some rooms have sea views and have recently been re-furbished and complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the establishment.

The surrounding area offers a multitude of interesting places to see and activities to enjoy. Holkham Hall, Sandringham House or Nelson's birthplace at nearby Burnham Thorpe are just a few of the many historic locations nearby. A drive down to the coast will take you to many quaint fishing villages with picturesque quaysides and all sorts of little

A very friendly welcome is always a good sign, especially when it's cold outside and you are greeted by a smiling face and a roaring log fire! Dining is elegant, but not stuffy with a restaurant, a conservatory and bars with tables. The food was truly excellent and the choices and the way the dishes are prepared and presented cannot be faulted. It's not cordon bleu, but it's not meant to be - it's a pub after all's said and done! Food portions are sensible and are cooked with care and skill. (Sounds weird, but corned beef hash served with a gooey runny duck's egg is to die for!). Plenty of fat and delicious oysters and mussels and, of course, all manner of fish dishes (and so there should be, being right on the North West Norfolk coast). difficult to find fault, so highly recommended.

I visit the Lifeboat regularly when I am in Norfolk visiting my old haunts. I love the atmosphere of the place - it has a beautiful interior which is rustic yet cosy and always warm and welcoming.

The food is excellent and I would recommend sitting in the conservatory if you prefer less formal dining. This looks out over a walled patio area which, weather permitting, is a great area to eat lunch or have a drink. For kids, there's a children's play area to keep them entertained.

The beers at The Lifeboat are top class with quality real ales such as Woodfords Wherry, Adnams, Green King Abbot, IPA and The Governor. The food, too, is excellent and the service very good. Even on busy weekends you don't have to wait long between couses.

I would definitely recommend the Lifeboat if you are in the area for great beer and good food at reasonable prices.
