Review of Baltizer - Bexley - Kent written 6 Oct 2012

The menu at Baltizer includes an appetizing array of signature Indian dishes from Bombay and Goa as well as vegetarian options from the southern part of the region. Attentive, but not too obvious or intrusive waiter service.

The ambience was excellent and the food was just brilliant. Best curry in southern England and best spicy chicken ever!! Baltizer is in a quaint setting, underneath the railway arches. A little on the pricey side, but well, well worth it!

Review of Alexandra Ristorante Italiano - Ramsgate - Kent written 21 Aug 2012

What a pleasure it is to eat authentic Italian food in the right setting. We both started with cheese then I had chicken cannelloni while my mate had lasagne. Everything was served plentiful, fresh and piping hot. The waiter was attentive and discrete and the prices are very reasonable. Try it, you'll not be disappointed !!

Review of Blue Check Restaurant - Bushey - Hertfordshire written 5 Jul 2012

I don't do "organised"! Well, not normally, but this was a family anniversary that I couldn't miss, so I didn't have a lot of choice. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised. There was a lively atmoshpere, the entertainment was excellent which helped to build a good party atmosphere.

The food was very good with lots of choice and quite substantial. The service was excellent despite the numbers, and the decor of past film stars gave added interest. Somewhere between 3 and 4 stars, so I'll give four!

Review of The Rhyl Bistro - Rhyl - Denbighshire written 29 Jun 2012

Rhyl can be a daunting place to the uninitiated like me, so I was grateful when I accidentally stumbled across this excellent Bistro Restaurant. Though the surrounding area is a curious mixture of old, new, commercial and leisure, it was like stepping into the Tardis and leaving the outside world behind! The food, the service, the ambience, the prices, in fact everything about this restaurant more than compensated for getting lost in Rhyl!

Service was low key but excellent, the food was absolutely top notch - extremely tasty and cooked to perfection. Portions were of a good size and there was a really genuine relaxed atmosphere. Would I recommend it? Yes, without hesitation. Chris Lloyd has built a winning combination of quality and value, so if you want somewhere to enjoy a nice top quality relaxed meal on the Rhyl coast then this is the place. It's easy to find - just turn your sat nav off, drive in circles and mind you don't bump into Dr Who!

(Top Tip... try the roast duck with black cherry & cassis sauce. It'll blow your socks off!)

This is 'proper' food served in a 'proper' pub by 'proper' people and that should be a good enough endorsement for anyone!!

You should try roast rump of lamb with spring vegetables and pearl barley mix, crispy mutton belly, crushed Jersey royals, nettle and mint gravy... by the 'eck! Now that's what you call food, not this slop and chips and a glass of warm piddle that you get in most places!

If you want a taste of the REAL Yourkshire, and 'proper' food, put the Pipe & Glass on your itinerary, quick!

Review of Lysses House Hotel - Fareham - Hampshire written 5 Feb 2012

Posh hotels are not normally my scene, but I ended up here in Fareham at a mate's wedding. And if I'm totally honest, I was struck by how down to earth the staff at Lysses House were, while remaining totally professional and efficient.

The food was incredible. The wines were particularly well chosen and served with a flourish worthy of a Parisian 'garcon' (without the attitude).

Remind me to stop being an inverted snob and quit whingeing about 'posh' places! Lysses has proved me wrong and I'm happy to admit it.
