About Bricklayers Arms

Since 2003 Sally and Alvin Michaels have not only maintained the essence of a beautiful Grade II listed country pub, but with the help of Michelin trained Chef Claude Paillet have transformed the Bricklayers Arms into an award winning and nationally recognised restaurant.

With beautiful surrounding countryside and nearby country walks over the rolling hills of the Chess Valley it's hard to believe that the Bricklayers Arms is within such easy reach of major roads and rail networks.

A warm welcome awaits you in this beautiful grade II listed, 18th century pub by the Michaels family and their friendly and knowledgeable staff. Enjoy the cosy atmosphere when you step inside the rustic low oak beam interior full of character with its brick bar and real log fire. In Summer enjoy lunch in the garden surrounded by green pastures.

Enjoy the food by Michelin trained Chef Claude Paillet and his team who has transformed the Bricklayers Arms into an multi award winning gastro pub restaurant. Perfect for those seeking a treat in Hertfordshire's beautiful countryside.

Accolades have been awarded for an AA rosette for culinary excellence; Foodie Guide, Dining Pub of the Year; reader recommendation, The Good Food Guide; Hertfordshire's, AA's Britain's Best Pub; and recommended in the much coveted Michelin Guide.

We had an excellent meal at the Bricklayers, couldn't fault it (or the beers!). The staff were friendly and professional, the menu was top quality and varied and the quality and presentation of the food was far better than many more pricey restaurants I've been to. The slow cooked Ox Cheeks are melt in the mouth scrumptious! The egg cocotte in goats cheese cream was also delicious and highly unusual. Okay, it's a bit pricey but you get what you pay for and every penny is justified.
