About Hickman Hill Hotel

For 30+ years, The Hickman Hill Hotel has charmed guests with its unique character, hospitality and intimate surroundings in the lovely market town of Gainsborough.

Formerly the Queen Elizabeth Grammar School dating back to 1795 it became a hotel in 1982 with many of the original features giving the hotel a Grade 2 listing. The Hotel has over two acres of gardens and fish pond to relax by and unwind from the stressful day or journey.

Open to residents and non-residents the Hickman Hill Hotel restaurant is set in an ideal setting where you can enjoy a superb menu using the best in local produce. It is also the ideal place where you can celebrate a birthday, christening, an anniversary, wedding reception or any other special occasion.

We joined 'Tastes of Lincolnshire' and, where possible, we aim to source as many products as possible from Lincolnshire. Currently we obtain our Sausages, Gammon Steaks and Smoked Streaky bacon from Redhill Farm in Blyton. Our Lamb products come from Victoria's Lamb in Heapham. We always have a stock of Lincolnshire Cheeses including the Tastes of Lincolnshire award winner "Cotehill Blue". You will be surprised at the quality and flavour that Lincolnshire cheeses have to offer.

Join us for a drink at the bar followed by a delicious meal in our restaurant. We'll make you truly welcome as only a good Lincolnshire hotel knows how.

We timed our stay badly because the restaurant was closed the first night we were there, but we were directed to a very good Bangladeshi restaurant just round the corner!

The restaurant at Hickman Hill, on the other hand, is way beyond 'very good' - it is truly excellent. Everything is sourced locally and presented in traditional British manner and it's a real pleasure to eat there. The chef clearly knows what he is up to, and is comfortable with good quality ingredients. Highly reccommended.

Hickman Hill Hotel is being carefully updated by the owners so is something of a 'work-in-progress'.

The food on the other hand deserves no reservations at all, it is simply superb. And the chef actually knows how to cook a blue steak (one of my pet hates about most British eating places).

The breakfast was cooked to order and was 100% exceptional. The ingredients were all sourced locally, and you can taste the difference. Best hotel food I've eaten in a long time (and I'm a fussy eater!)
