Like a fine malt, the Bushmills Inn Hotel has matured across the years. The original coach house and stables are thought to date back to 1608, the same year that the Bushmills distillery was granted the first ever licence to distil whiskey. Over time the Inn took on many guises, from boarding house to bicycle factory. Careful redevelopment however has reawakened the Inn. The Gas Bar is the Bushmills Inn Hotel’s public bar. Rich in colour and history and still lit by gas light it is the perfect place to relax and sample a glass of Bushmills’ finest malt. Pull up a chair at the roaring peat fire or cosy up together in the ‘posh snug’ or the ‘old kitchen’ and enjoy a bar nibble from the handpicked selection on offer. Featuring fine wines, Bushmills Inn cocktails, an extensive selection of whiskey and of course Guinness to whet your whistle. After exploring the Causeway Coastline, why not pull up a chair and exercise your taste buds in our award-winning restaurant. Each dish is crafted from traditional roots, but with a Bushmills twist. The bar is fun, and the Bushmills whiskey is even more fun! The restaurant is cosy and friendly and the staff are professional and attentive and really make your experience all the more enjoyable. The menu is varied and wholesome and everything was cooked and presented to perfection. I'm a sucker for old-style interiors and this was spot on. The old world charm of the place is very appealing and it's difficult not to relax and unwind when you are welcomed by that wonderful smell of burning peat

We arrived in the early evening and found that everyone and everything in the bar was softly illuminated. And then it dawned on us why they call it the Gas Bar... the old gaslights are still in use. In fact, we got so comfy that we decided to skip the restaurant and eat near the bar. So we both had what they call 'the pheasant beaters nose bag' which was a big plate of Irish cheeses and Ballymoney roast ham served with apple chutney, pickle and wheaten bread... truly delicious.
Our excursion to the restaurant followed the next day when we enjoyed one of the finest meals I've had in a long time. Top marks to The Bushmills for an excellent weekend. We shall return!
