About The Pipe & Glass Inn

Dating back to the 15th century, the Pipe & Glass Inn stands on the site of the original gatehouse to Dalton Park, still the residence of Lord Hotham. It was here that some of the visitors to the 'great house' were offered hospitality and lodgings during their stay. The old gatehouse was eventually replaced by the present building, part of which is 17th century.

James and Kate took over The Pipe & Glass Inn in March 2006, and undertook a full refurbishment. The bar has kept a country pub feel, while the restaurant was transformed into a warm, welcoming, more contemporary area, with bespoke wooden tables made to James and Kate’s specifications, and a conservatory area looking out over the garden and housing a spectacular long table seating up to 28 for those of you with lots of friends! There is also plenty of room for dining outside.

In 2010 two luxury boutique suites were opened ‘Sage and ‘Thyme’, both with king size beds, their own patios and stunning views into Dalton Park.

Chef-proprietor James is committed to sourcing as much local and seasonal produce as possible – but first and foremost, its quality that counts. The Pipe & Glass Inn was awarded East Yorkshires first and only Michelin star in 2010, James is the current ‘Yorkshire Life’ chef of the year and Delicouslyorkshire champion. The menus, which include vegetarian options, change regularly and if there’s something you’d like that’s not on there, please ask!

Excellent place, the Pipe & Glass inn. The atmosphere is brilliant, the bar is cosy and friendly and the choice of beers is more than enough. The staff were superb, very friendly and helpful. We both had ham hock and guinea fowl ballotine with a scampi fritter, pease pudding and English pea shoots. What an excellent balance of textures and flavours. It's no wonder this place has a Michelin Star. I'll certainly be back next time I'm "up North".

This is 'proper' food served in a 'proper' pub by 'proper' people and that should be a good enough endorsement for anyone!!

You should try roast rump of lamb with spring vegetables and pearl barley mix, crispy mutton belly, crushed Jersey royals, nettle and mint gravy... by the 'eck! Now that's what you call food, not this slop and chips and a glass of warm piddle that you get in most places!

If you want a taste of the REAL Yourkshire, and 'proper' food, put the Pipe & Glass on your itinerary, quick!

Being French, I'm fussy about the quality of what I eat. My husband (who's a Brit) holds that there is good quality British food available if you know where to look. Well now I know and I don't need to look any further. The Pipe & Glass not only has a fabulously traditional bar with (I'm reliably advised) top quality ales, the food is just perfect. I went for the chicken breast with peas, morel mushrooms, wild garlic mash and crispy smoked bacon. What an absolute delight! Hubby, meanwhile, had pork sausages and bubble and squeak with ale and onion gravy. He was a happy bunny! Well done the Mackenzies - best birthday meal I could ask for.
