There has been a public house on the site of The Gun for over 250 years. The surrounding area was home to the dockside iron foundries which produced the guns for the Royal Naval fleets in the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, The Gun operates to significant critical acclaim for many good reasons.

The Air Balloon was originally two ale houses and provided for the needs of the travellers before the days of licensing. Many balloon ascents were made from about 1784 onwards, and one Walter Powell ascended from Malmesbury and disapppeared without trace about that time. We, fortunately, are still here, and welcome you to our establishment!
